LGC members serve a 4 year term of office and attend five full LGC meetings a year. They are also allocated to sub-committees that deal with the day-to-day running of the academy. Currently, there are three sub-committees: Standards, Resources and Ethos.
Another role each governor undertakes is as a link to a particular academic department, visiting regularly and building up a supportive relationship with the staff. These links allow governors to take part in lessons, talk with the students, analyse the department’s achievements and understand their needs. The governors are then able to report back to the full governing body with confidence and support the strategic planning of the school’s development and its policies.
Being a governor is not all work: they enjoy attending the annual presentation evening, the Minster carol service, the senior citizens’ Christmas lunch and the many plays, concerts, presentations and sports events to which they are invited.
As Manor is a Church of England Academy the majority of the LGC members are appointed by the Diocese of York. Others are appointed by the Trust, and staff and parents are elected to join the full governing board when terms of office end.
If you are interested in becoming an LGC member do contact the school to find out about the current vacancies. Email: hello@mce.hslt.academy
To contact the governors, please write to the Chair of Governors, Mr Andy Richardson, Manor CE Academy, Millfield Lane, York YO26 6PA or email: chair@mce.hslt.academy
